Motivation
Acoustic pollution is a major environmental health hazard in dense metropolitan areas. This project investigates sound records captured by municipal acoustic stations across Barcelona to provide an intuitive neighborhood diagnostic.
Technical solution
Data parsing, cleaning, and formatting from the Open Data BCN portal integrated into an interactive web dashboard. Ambient decibel metrics (day and night measurements) are mapped across district boundaries to surface longitudinal noise patterns.
Key features
- Territorial comparisons: Granular bar charts and time series broken down by district and street typologies.
- WHO health benchmarks: Immediate visual alignment against WHO maximum recommended acoustic exposure thresholds.
- Client-side rendering: Fast, standalone browser visualization with minimal bandwidth footprint.
Impact
Offers citizens and researchers an approachable, transparent tool to evaluate urban noise trends, translating complex decibel registries into actionable visual knowledge.
